In this fast-paced world, staying present is difficult. You combine that with my personality type that is known to spend a lot of time thinking about the future or focusing on the past, it can be a nightmare for me to stay in the moment.
But give me a sweet, soothing voice to listen to and I am focused. I discovered this 5 years ago when I would commute for work. I would listen to books on tape or podcasts while driving. It was almost meditative, as it kept my mind from wandering.
More than ever, I am recognizing how calming it is to find “that” voice that captures my attention. I know it immediately! If you have a hard time staying focused, turn off all disruptions and try listening to something (I am not talking Talk Radio either). The practice of having to focus on what is being said will calm your nervous system and other senses down.
Not sure where to start? Here are a few of my favorite voices and where to find them:
- Brook Castillo- The Life Coach School Podcast
- Dr. Wayne Dyer- Any one of his books (Hay House Publishing)
- Marie Hay- Any one of her books (Hay House Publishing)
- Oprah- Any one of her 21 Day Meditation Experiences with Deepak Chopra
